Oklahoma Teacher Walkout
As many people across the country know, Oklahoma teachers led a statewide "walkout" that started on April 2, 2018. Tens of thousands of teachers, students, former students, parents, and other supporters made their way to the state Capitol to speak to their representatives about the inadequate funding received by Oklahoma public schools. I went with a few of my former high school teachers for the first two days of the walkout and the experience was surreal. I heard countless stories from educators who are truly passionate about the quality of education their students receive. I have always known that my teachers did a lot of work behind the scenes to lift up their students, but these last few weeks I am becoming more aware than ever of the sacrifices these people can and will make on a daily basis to ensure their students have the absolute best opportunities to reach for.
